Atlanta Real Estate

Welcome to the Atlanta Real Estate page. First let’s start with a little history about Atlanta. Atlanta was founded in 1837. It was the end of the Western and Atlantic railroad. Atlanta was first named Marthasville in honor of the then Governors daughter, nicknamed Terminus(for its rail location) then soon the name was changed to Atlanta, the feminine of Atlantic-as in the railroad.

Today Atlanta remains a transportation hub, not only because of it’s railway system and 3 major Interstate Highways but primarily for the air travelers throughout the southeastern United States and the world. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is one of the nations busiest in daily passenger flights. Direct flights to Europe, Asia and South America have made Atlanta easily accessible to the more than 1,000 International businesses from more than 50 countries that operate or have representation in the Metro area.

In the past two decades Atlanta has experienced tremendous growth. While the population of the city has remained constant at about 425,000, the metro population has grown from 2.9 million to over 5 million.

There is always plenty to do in the Atlanta metro area. You may select to go to one of the many museums that feature everything from civil war history to modern art. If sporting events interest you then you may have too many choices. Atlanta is home to 4 professional franchises: Braves, Falcons, Hawks and Thrashers. If college athletics is your thing then you will be right at home. There are numerous local athletic associations for both adults and youth to get involved in. ALTA, the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association, has a presence in virtually every community that features tennis aminities. Skill levels range from begining players to advanced players.

You can obtain a multitude of community information including demographics, median income, average temperatures and crime statistics by visiting the community profile section of this site. I have also made detailed school reports available.

The new Georgia Aquarium opened on November 23, 2005. You owe it to yourself and your family to visit this awesome attraction. Remember to order your tickets online as it sells out fast, especially on weekends. The slide shows below are from a trip to the aquarium that my family took in early January, 2006.

Each year the Holiday Season in Atlanta is kicked off on Thanksgiving Evening by the lighting of the Great Tree. 2006 was no different. The 59th annual lighting of the Great Tree was held at Lenox Square; with the tree being positioned atop Macy´s. This years´ tree is a Georgia White Pine that is approximately 70 feet tall. The decorating generally takes about 2 weeks to complete, includes over 8 miles of electrical wiring and hundreds of basketball size ornaments.

Estimates are that over 100,000 attendees were present for the festivities. Entertainers included Leanne Rhymes, Third Day, George Huff and a choir of selected Atlanta residents; all performing Christmas Carols as well as a performance by Cirque du Soleil. The hour long event was capped off by the lighting of the tree and an incredible fireworks display.
