Many times the question is asked, Why don’t we just wait until after the holidays to put the house on the market? This is a good question for a seller who is not committed to selling their home. Now if you are committed to selling your home, lets look at how you can benefit from getting your home on the market during the holidays.

What About The Clutter?

I know… I know, we have discussed decluttering the home and getting a storage building for some of your belongings to go in and this still applys with the exception of the holiday clutter. You see normal everyday clutter is just that, it is clutter. Holiday clutter is "Happy Clutter". Does that make sense? Of course it does. Prosective buyers come into the home and see festive decorations and it brings back happy memories for them. Happy clutter equals happy memories which hopefully equals a happy offer. OK that sounds a little corny but it happens.

Don’t Buyers Have Something Else To Do?

Sure they do. However they also typically have more time off from work during this time of the year. That allows them to take care of the gift shopping, holiday parties and still have ample time to look at homes. One of the busiest times for me every year is the week between Christmas and New Years. After the first of the year its back to the grindstone and after all the weather will turn worse as far as being cold and dreary. Why not take advantage of the holidays when the buyers may be in a happier mode?

Interest Rates are Low Now

With the low interest rates that are available, now would be a good time for both your buyer and yourself to get moving on your new home. There are currently interest rates available in the 6 percent range on a 30 year fixed motrgage even slightly below with some lenders. How long interest rates will remain in at these notoriuosly low rates is unknown.
