Most Dependable Real Estate Professionals of the Atlanta Area
Initially I was thrilled to be have gotten the phone call that I was being considered as one of Atlanta’s most dependable real estate professionals. I would be featured, along with nine other REALTORS®, as the ten most dependable real estate professionals in the Atlanta area. The feature would be published in Atlanta Magazine’s December 2007 edition in a four color full page presentation. Now that is some pretty impressive exposure. My contact information along with a link to my website would be included. OK, so what’s the catch?
Come to find out the feature is actually an ad that will be purchased with the agents who are featured paying for it. It cost each agent $2,500.00 and with 10 agents that would be $25,000.00. First off, I don’t think it is ethical to represent yourself as the most dependable if you have to buy the distinction. Secondly, a full page ad in Atlanta Magazine costs $5,220.00 when I checked on it this morning. Now if my math is correct that equals a $19,780.00 profit or roughly a 378% return on investment. Not bad, oh wait a minute. I was also to get a laminated copy of the list so the profit and return would be lower.
I can only imagine that this scam is taking place throughout the country, especially in major metropolitan areas. REALTORS® don’t fall for this nonsense. Remember we are held to a higher ethical and should behave accordingly.
