Moving Tips
Moving is with out a doubt one of the most stressful undertakings that anyone is ever involved with. The best way to remove most of the stress is by doing as much advanced planning as possible. It is never too soon to begin planning your move. Think about the items that you will be taking with you as well as those items you don´t need anymore. Consider having a Garage Sale to get rid of the things you don´t wish to move or you may even donate them to a local charity. Either way you will save time and money by not having to pack and unpack items you are looking to discard.
Will you be moving yourself or using the services of Moving Company? In either situation you should schedule the equipment or the Mover as soon as possible. Certain times during the month and year get extremely busy for movers and truck rental companies. If you will be using a Moving Company be sure to get several quotes and compare the services rendered. Do not enter into a contract with any mover until you have had the opportunity to check them out. We have all heard horror stories about dishonest or unscrupulous movers. Don´t become a statistic.
There are certain items that movers are not allowed to move. Hazardous materials and flammable liquids top the list. If your mover will be transporting your gas powered lawn equipment make sure that the fuel has been removed from it first. Pets and live animals are also forbidden. You will want to make separate arrangements for them. Also consider if you will be flying to your new destination. Check with the airlines for information regarding transporting your pets.
Many times when moving we tend to forget a few things. Remember to pick up any items you have at the cleaners. If you have a safe deposit box remove the contents and keep them with you during the move. Have you contacted your current utility companies as well as the ones for your new home? If you are moving a long distance it would be a good idea to go ahead and set up a new bank account in your new town. Many merchants will not accept an out of town check. Have you remembered to change your address and have your mail forwarded? There is a link below to the Post Office so that you can do this online.
If you have children, keep them involved in the process also. Moving can be just as stressful on them as it is on you. Have the children get the mailing addresses or email addresses of their friends so that they can stay in touch. If they are old enough allow them to help pack their belongings. They can also help by unpacking their things upon arrival at your new home. You may even want to take the children on your house hunting trip. By keeping them involved you will hopefully reduce their stress which will in turn reduce your stress.
