The Georgia Aquarium
Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Atlanta based Home Depot, envisioned a major Atlanta attraction that would make visitors go WOW while also providing an educational resource for students and researchers alike. Little did he know that visitors would go WOW at virtually every turn they made. On November 23, 2005 the Georgia Aquarium opened its doors. The goal for first year attendance was one million visitors. With the magnitude of this attraction, it comes as no surprise that attendance in the first year exceeded three million guests.
The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world. If your going to be the largest aquarium then you should also display the largest fish, a whale shark. Heck, why not have two of them? The two whale sharks reside in a tank of aproximately 7,000,000 gallons of water along with several thousand of their closest friends. This part of the aquarium is viewed from two vantage points. One being from the bottom looking up via a moving sidewalk and the other from stadium style seating in an auditorium with a guide describing the various species of fish in the tank.
Whether you are a long time resident of Atlanta or just in town for a short stay, make the Georgia Aquarium a top priority as an attraction to visit. One friendly reminder, order your tickets online as this destination is frequently sold out.

Got something to say?
This looks like it would be a great day out. We went to the Shedd Aquarium this year with my little one and it was a blast. If we ever make it to Atlanta again we will have to take some time out to visit the Aquarium.
With one of my hobbies being tropical, I will definitely put on my calendar a trip to Atlanta and be sure to earmark the Aquarium. Sounds like it should be very enjoyable.
Thanks! We just missed seeing this on our last visit. Will make sure to get tickets ahead of time and plan accordingly next time.
